Sudan Gurung Returns!

Sudan Gurung is once again our Home Minister. We hope that he will have a much longer tenure than the last time around. Why do I get the feeling that the Home Minister is back with a vengeance? Let us hope that he will be using Facebook less and just focus on his job more.

Monsoon is arriving, and as usual, we will see lots of floods and landslides. I think Sudan Gurung has some experience with disaster relief, and don't be surprised if he is in the field during the monsoon. Sudan is what I would say a hands-on minister. He is not going to be sitting in his office all day trying to figure out who needs to get promoted and demoted and then extort from our police personnel like the previous Home Ministers.

We have all read about how our previous Home Ministers made Rs 50 lakhs per day from the setting at the TIA. We know very well that for the first time in our history, we have folks who will not be minting money while in office and offering free chiya kharcha to their near and dear ones.

I think the best advice for now for those in power is to take a social media break for at least a year, speak less, and focus on your ministries and your constituencies as well. Why? Because our old school chor political parties and the shameless media want some masala every other day.

When PM Balen didn't speak, they obstructed the House and wanted him to speak. When he finally spoke, they were still obstructing the House because he spoke more than they wanted. And then came the FB statuses ridiculing a government secretary for asking favours from the PM. Even PM Balen should deactivate his social media account while in Baluwatar so that our old school jholeys have nothing more to whine and bitch about.

And today, along with Sudan Gurung, our Mahabir Dai, an independent lawmaker, also took the oath of office as our Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. Maybe Harkey should learn a thing or two from Mahabir Dai! You can get what you want if you speak softly and ask the right questions instead of ranting on Facebook, Twitter and on the road and on a bike and asking the wrong questions!

Mahabir Dai's ministry has a 400 crore budget this year. Hope it will be put to better use than just housing the sarkari karmacharis and buying vehicles and sofas for the new buildings. Mahabir Dai has made it clear that he will serve the country as a Minister for three years and leave so that the young ones can then do a better job.

I think Mahabir Dai should be our next President. The last President I admired was José [Disallowed String for - use not allowed]ca from Uruguay. He died last year. The man was a simple farmer and owned a beat-up old Volkswagen. I have met Mahabir Dai a few times while he was doing his thing at the Innovation Centre in Kirtipur. He showed me his office, and all I could see was young folks tinkering with this and that, and he was the only old person there. He showed me a room where he slept. The room was empty except for a small tent, big enough to hold Mahabir Dai's big belly, and that was about it.

I think PM Balen will keep the Defence Ministry for himself, and we no longer have to deal with 40+ ministers milking the system like in the old days. This government is here for five years. The opposition wallahs better straighten up their act or else they will lose whatever credibility they still have left and will be seen more as cry babies and sore losers rather than a productive and constructive opposition!

Welcome back, Sudan Gurung and Mahabir Dai! Both are coming back as mantris. Mahabir Dai did his stint as the Education Minister for some time before the election. Today, he is heading a ministry he has long dreamed of since his past life. The Balen government has made his dream come true, and let's hope Nepal will slowly progress into a more innovative country rather than only exporting our youth just to keep our economy alive.
