Can anybody tell me if one could use an iphone4 in Nepal? ( Not via At and T of course )...

Also, how does one go about getting a cell phone. I hear that there are plenty of cellphone companies...but do we need to put in an application 3-4 months prior?

You make me go ...lol

Yes you can use iPhone 4. Get it unlocked if it is not.
I used to get mero mobile sim card instantly by paying 300'rupees for the sim but it was 2 years ago. I think you can still get. If not, you should be able to find some unused sim from your family or friends.

iPhone 4 doesnot support the regular sim but thats not a big deal since u can easily buy a sim cutter ( costs u around 15$$$$), so that way u can use that phone anywhere in the world as long as the phone is unlocked..n abt the sim u can have one as soon as u arrive TIA( n thats gonna cost u around $$$$8, cheap, isn't it???) .. I think it's UTL which is giving that service..hope this helps

U don't need to buy a sim cutter. U can cut it with a scissor.

Is that true? Can you simply cut the regular simcard in the size of smaller and use it in iphone4?

Bidroh, SIM would not be an issue here (you can cut with scissor or buy the SIM-cutter ..i would personally buy SIM cutter because it comes with the adapter that you can switch to regular SIM phone) If you have the earliest iphone 4 (ie. with firmware 4.0.1) then you are lucky meaning that can be jailbroken and unlocked. Newer than that (4.1 and 4.0.2) cannot be jailbroken and unlocked at this time.

Had all models of iphone using 4 now.  Bhakte dai is correct just take his advise you will be fine.  Also buy/get a bumper..it helps..  If your iphone has 4.1 or later downgrade the IOS then jailbreak - unclok it.  Oh btw iphone works almost everywhere in the world incl nepal

I'm even more confused now.. I just checked my iphone4, its a 4.1 version....so this probably means that I can't use it while in Nepal?

Also, does that have anything to do with "cutting" the SIM? Or can I just use a SIM cutter and use the SIM Cards issued by Nepali Telecommunication companies?

For now there is no jailbreak and unlock for your phone period. Do not fall into any of the scams you will come across.

I downgraded my ipsw to 4.0.1 from 4.0.2 and got it unlocked. So bhakte dai there is a way out that is downgrade to 4.0.1 or earlier.

furke, no downgrade is possible for 4.1 to 4.0.1 because apple is not signing for older firmware other than 4.1. You must have downgraded when apple was still signing for 4.0.1 . Its too late for that now

So since I have 4.1 iphone, there's no way I can use it in Nepal, right?

buying sim takes 5 minutes and 100 rupees. later when u unlock iphone, u can cut the sim to the correct size and use it.. how u cut it is your choice.
