Kantipur Report
Speaking
at the meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA)’s Committee for
Determining the Base of Cultural and Social solidarity, lawmakers of
Madheshi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), Tarai-Madhesh Loktantrik Party and
Sadbhawana Party stressed on using Hindi language in government-related
works in central level.
Other parties have sharply opposed the proposal.
MJF lawmaker Jayram Yadav said, “Our demand for use of Hindi in government works needn’t be debated.â€
While
UML lawmaker Netra Panthi opined the country has already entered the
concept of multilingualism, so a commission should resolve the issue,
Nepali Congress lawmaker Usha Gurung said the language should not be
made a big issue.
As
debate started increasing, Committee Chairman Navodita Chaudhary said
the solution must be sought through consensus maintaining respect for
language of all.
The meeting has been postponed until Thursday after the parties failed to come to an agreement.
The
preparation of Committee’s concept on constitution has been delayed due
to the differences over the issue of official languages.
