"God does not play dice with the universe.ý A. Einstein

Quantum mechanics and general relativity: the two great theory (or philosophy?) are still puzzling physicist all around the world to unresolved the conflict between them. Quantum phenomena, for example, seem to require that observations made at one place affect what will be observed in another place at the same instant (no delay at all), thus violating the relativity principle that a signal cannot travel faster than the speed of light. Though both the theories were able to explain many phenomena in this world to make it less strange, there are many things still we are not sure about the theory.
Both theory introduced the ideas which baffled the minds of great thinkers and philosophers for long time; yet both have made the universe more explicable and predictable than it ever was before. Newtonian mechanics on the other hand permitted physicists to calculate the motion of cannon balls or planets with great accuracy, but it cannot account for the behavior of atomic particles traveling at nearly the speed of light. Both the theories are today introduced to college freshmen and everybody is familiar with the mysterious "action at a distance," in which gravity acts instantaneously across the universe. Which doesnýt matches the idea of cause and effect.
Einstein's general theory of relativity replaced action at a distance with a simple idea of the curvature of space-time, which resolved the paradox. It is the same idea as if you put two heavy balls on a soft bed, they both disturb the area around them and move towards each other. Based on the same idea, in Einstein's general theory, space-time is deformed by the presence of a massive object (like earth, sun), much as the surface of the bed is deformed by the heavy balls
On the time scale we are used to live, the universe appears continuous and quantum mechanical effect cannot be seen or observed. Proper scientific instruments can allow us to explore the universe on a sufficiently small scale, far from human experience, the universe turns out to be discontinuous, divided into discrete bits. Its like water stream, if you just see a water flowing in the river, it looks very continues, but if see it finely, it is made up of discrete water molecules.
Same thing was found true for light wave and was a completely unexpected discovery. Quantum mechanics deals with that discreteness by treating matter or energy (they are the same according to relativity) either as particles or as waves. The idea that matter or energy could be both a wave and a particle seemed at first to be so strange as to be ridiculous. Thinking it philosophically, waves and particles, of course, are simply images drawn from everyday experience. We use them to describe the subatomic world because we find it impossible to imagine that which we cannot experience.
One of the most popular beliefs about the "strangeness" of quantum mechanics has to do with the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, which states that it is impossible to know with total precision both the momentum (or velocity) and the position of an object at the same time. This can be understood by the idea that by measuring any quantity, for example the position of an electron, you will disturb the state of an electron, because you need to hit the electron with light (photon) to see it. This effect cannot be seen on daily life because photon energy is very small to give any significant effect on a for example a marble or any heavy object. One can conclude from the Heisenberg principle that the world is unpredictable, but the opposite is true: The uncertainty principle is actually a recipe for making measurements with incredible accuracy. (If you want to know the position of an object as precisely as possible, for example, then don't try to determine its velocity at the same time.) Because its predictions are faithfully borne out by experiment, quantum mechanics has made the scientist's universe much less strange

It is amazing to know that though these theories are far apart they are some how related. Confirmation of the many of the effects general relativity became possible, through the technologies developed in by the quantum theory. Both theories, for example, were essential to the development of the global positioning system (GPS), which we use in our cars to find position, by comparing timing signals broadcast by satellites, and can tell you where you are within a few feet anywhere on Earth. To achieve such extreme accuracy, the calculation must take into account relativity's effect on time. Moreover, the timing signals themselves must be accurate to one second in 100,000 years. Such accuracy would be impossible without the atomic clock, an invention that is based on the quantum mechanics.
We can only conclude that at its most fundamental level, where we talk about particles, the universe is indeed discrete. On the other hand, General relativity, however, is a classical continuum theory, which conceives of the universe as continues. So it seems that there is philosophy of ýdwaitý wining here. Which can be described as two deferent aspects of Brhamand:the whole continues feature which connects every creature and bits to the supreme through the continues and seamless space, but still there is an another aspect ýthe individualityý of the creature which is important for being itself. So far, there is no generally accepted quantum theory of gravity, though some theorists believe they are close. We can again say that ýadwiatý is not impossible it is just a matter of connecting the individual to the supreme.
Newton's genius was to recognize that the fall of an apple is described by the same mathematical laws that govern the orbits of the planets, we do not need one law for planets and another for apples. It has been the goal of physicists ever since to discover the underlying equations that govern everything, from the birth of stars to falling in love. Then comes the "theory of everything," a single equation that would make sense of the entire universe.. You change some parameters to describe relation of the earth and the sun, or relation of you and you girlfriend (philosophically) or relation of the electron and photon) Since the quantum mechanics has not been yet properly connected with general relativity means only that there are great discoveries still to be made.
Then human life will be just a small flash of life trapped in a little planet moving around one of the planets of the one of the billions of stars. We will have clearer picture of how everything works, it will be like watching Katmandu from the tall dharhara, instead of juggling around the Thamel.

crishna, great artlicle..loved it..let me give you a website that compares Quantum mechanics and general theory of relativity, this is a great site.

haha, i thought this line was pretty funny..

and yes, if we happen to know everything, every theory, then our existance wont matter, we wont be human anymore..

Certainly, we are knocking on heavens door at the moment. I can tell rite now" make sure to capture time, date and day puls year". We will soon be seeing a god. we are knocking his door only thing he has to do is" open the door".It is not that far when human will realise the relegion is another name of science where ppl has been uplifted in shake of discipling population. There is another certainity that conflict of relegion has been going since the time of Abrahim" The trinity which is creator who is invisible and nobody knows about it. He has three son Abraham, who is brahma in hindu relegion, the jews scrambled the word here B-R-A-H-M-A Then look at A-B-R-A-H-M, bible says he changed his name to abrahim at the age of 100. He is actually to start brahamism in the world. His second brother H-A-R-I, as mentioned in bible so he can be Vishu..like hari haran. It is another name given to Vishnu. Third son was Nehan, which was shiva. The abrahim had a wife called swati which is swarasti in hindu. The story goes like this braham aka abrahim wanted to make own relegion with the theory of brahmanism. The Vishu had a discussion with him on Atma conpet and Aditya. which vishu didot wanted and brahman wanted to go with orthodox concept. There is mention of war where Vishu was killed but his follower kept him alive with different names and incarnation. Lord vishu was killed 800 yrs ago times 1000 according to brahmic calander. He moved before to southern america which is known as now was attached to the great land with seven rivers. It got seperated with the continental drifiting. Shiva Aka norha move with his disciples to the southern india after spending some years in kailash throught the route of mumbai.

well, if u guys are intrested then pls dont hesitate for more infromation.

Life is an erroneous perception of reality. It depends how you look at it. Sometime you will see completely different form appearance. Here is one optical example....

Zen Kundan, I think you have just highlighted the importance of "akagra dhyaan" to see what is beyond the optical illusion. Fix your gaze, do not twitch even a single muscle in your body, especially your eyes....the view is much more different.

This is such a wonderful discussion topic, illuminating in many respects. I will be bouncing off my views on the topic soon as soon as I get respite from my daily responsibilites.

scatterbrain Ji,

You got my point in surficial way. Sabda maa hoina vaab maa jaam.

Let me clear better way. In Vedanta, Maya must be seen through in order to achieve moksha, ahamkar and karma are seen as part of the binding forces of Maya. Maya is seen as the phenomenal universe, a lesser reality-lens superimposed on the one Brahman that leads us to think of the phenomenal cosmos as real. Maya is also visualized as part of the Divine Mother (Devi) concept of Hinduism. In the Hindu scripture 'Devi Mahatmyam,' Mahamaya is said to cover Vishnu's eyes in Yoganidra during cycles of existence when all is resolved into one. By exhorting Mahamaya to release Her illusory hold on Vishnu, Brahma is able to bring Vishnu to aid him in killing two demons, Madhu and Kaitabh, who have manifested from Vishnu's sleeping form. Shri Ramakrishna often spoke of Mother Maya and combined deep Hindu allegory with the idea that Maya is a lesser reality that must be overcome so that one is able to realize one's true Self.

Maya is the illusion of a limited, purely physical and mental reality in which our everyday consciousness has become entangled, a veiling of the true, unitary Self, also known as Brahman. Maya originated in the Hindu scriptures known as the Upanishads. Many philosphies or religions seek to "pierce the veil" in order to glimpse the transcendent truth, from which the illusion of a physical reality springs, drawing from the idea that first came to life in the Hindu stream of Vedanta.

Iti sri .....

Zen Kundan,

Informative piece on Maya there. Thanks you. Always some new infomation here. It's good.

My point however got diminished I think for I had implied my point and not clearly stated. Just the same way you'd have to focus with complete stillness to rid the optical illusion, I was implying that samadhis, dhyaans, tapasyas are there for one to help shake off the worldy illusions from your vision. What you see/experince beyond is the oneness with Brahman.

The concept of maya was established during the upanisads period when the Tribes led by Brahama or abrahim who was consider sinned after having sex with his servant hajar for being infertile. He lost lots of his follower and left the cannah the place where near israel present world says. Thats the region you can hardly see the temples of brahma compare to other hindu deity. Lets forget about gods.

Maya is something which is ominent and non-avoidable. If there is no existence of maya there wont be any presence of human kinda nor the concept of universe. Take the time from your birth till death everything consists of maya. The maya is also the ulimate thing block us from divine truth hidden within and in nature. The role of maya is to balance human nature and facts which can led to struggle for Mocha.

the conclusion is sabai kukur kashi gaye kasle khane

I would have loved to contributed to this thread myself, but alas, I do not have much time in my hand right now. I haven't even read the last few posts to this thread. Maybe, some other time. Zen, beautiful illustration of perceptual illusion though. I guess I will have to go with it for now. Keep posting these enriching philosophical musings. Rest assured, I will read them all when I do have time. Great discussion guys, keep it up.

hmm..this thread is really interesting.zen liked ur illusion..plus ur comment ..
beachlife, interesting points there..beachlife = moneyminded??

this is what i have understood of "maya" by reading thru books:

...Sat, world which our senses nor our any intellect part of the body can reach, it is the world that is present beyond the wrold of ASAT..contrast of SAT..we being as an invidual hunger for statisfaction, and we follow our senses, which leads us to be egoistic, naturing, and creates an endless, amount of desire..and futher more, We as being an individual, human, we need to realize this one truth and work with the "Para bramha" ....

confused bro, we aint suppose to expose the gyatri mantra haina ra. Just kidding" daam dude, thanks for reminding that mantra, i took that mantra when i was 13 and sincethen only thing i know is starting OM and ending PRACHODAYA"

Let me think on this topic so i can say something

The above gayatri mantra means" Almighty God embodiment of vital or spiritual energy destroyer of suffering embodiment of happiness that ( indicating to god) bright, luminos, like the sun supreme and best, destroyer of sins who is divine may receive intellect who our may inspire"

This is a vedic hymm given to a man on stepping towards manhood after the ceremony of Bratabanda. It is quite pity that Brahams ( supposed to follow the path of Brahma) made it forbide to Lower caste like sudras and vasnavas because they thought if they were given a opprtunity then it will lead to revolution against them. It will end the delux life of those crook Brahamas. They were so sucessful to manupulate the minds of kings and great warriors. Only one reason, i like Duryadhan( kauravas of mahabharta) is that he was a generous guy. He led sut putra to be prince which shows his rebellion act against the caste system back in Mahabharta. In reality they say Karna ( Danvir) lord of Kind heart and big donor was son of kunti who was born when see called Surya devta( solar deity ). In mahabharta it is said that surya devta visited her and she became pregnet before being a bride even. They dont mention about sex here. It is not possible to be pregnet without having sex just surya dev looking at her sexy eyes. You can see how our relegious text are vandalised.
Okie back to the point.
"The Gayatri mantra treasures and heritage that belons to the whole of humanity without exclusion." We were suppose to read this everyday so we understand and can be a better living organism than other. It is true that divine trinity has given top priority but we misuse it and Braham start to say read the mantra everyday so u get out of sin. Yes, if You read and understand plus reading everyday keeps you in your track of ideology and good way. It doesnot make you out of sin reading mantra, puran or ramayan.

Conclusion is to take from inner soul, it makes me laugh looking at ppl reading vedas, purans and gayatri mantra everyday but commiting crime and sin. They still dont understand the deeper meaning of it. I see ppl going to mandir and fasting but they dont even look at the poor on street who is starving for past few days.

jai hos bahun haru ko ( by the way i am gautame bahun as well)

Dear Friends,
I appologize for my two mistakes.

1. vigyanayentatan =Vigyan+Ananta+Ayatan= Consiousness+Infinite+Space, instead of 5th absorption Samadhi, it shoud be sixth absorption Samadhi.

2.Thank Passingthru for correcting me! I agree with you, when the spaceship retardate before stopping and accelerate while returning, the frame of refrence truns non-inertial and the problem is delt by general theory. Thanks again!

Very good question confused Ji! Turth should be one, science is experimental fact it can't be wrong. If you explore correctly you must see your body as wavelets, the entire material world as wavelets, the entire universe as wavelets. Many people had/have experienced it, but experience remains within the framework of an individual, that's why every individual has to explore oneself to experience the truth.

:)!

LOL vishontar, you took exactly a month to return...you RETURNED! thats always good thing tho..

Vishontar ji, i have no option but to agree with you on this point..."experience remains within the framework of an individual"....and i have also always considered science as being a absoulute-ness, not the truth...

GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK! Please dont delay to share your other wisdom ...
