My experience just proved that destiny is a bitch. My company applied for H1b and then I got laid off before April 8th. Could not find a job until now and now my H1b is approved (which I least expected). Today is the last day for my OPT and my H1b is approved and I am laughing at the joke my destiny played at me. What next for me? I don't know. I am still laughing at myself. I have no fkin' clue about what to do now. Life has been hanging between going back to Nepal and death and I am still laughing at the cruel joke played by my destiny. It's a truth -- life is a bitch and destiny is a whore and I am still laughing to myself. Why me?

Hope? Like what kinda hope? I have no freaking clue about what I am going to do next and you are talking about hope? It is just a matter of time and that's the one thing I don't count for -- time. Time is a killer and hope is its weapon of choice to hang ourself by the thread. I am still laughing and still trying to figure out, why me?

Do I? I thought the grace period to get the hell out of America, not to find the job. I got my OPT six months ago. I don't know man. Can I still look for the job while my OPT is supposedly fked up by today? Could you post me some link or something on that please? I am still laughing at the hilarity of my life.

i know many of us have faced difficult situation regarding maintaining our status. i have been through a lot too. only advise i can give at this time is to try to maintain your status. join some school/ summer classes. get I 20 from community college for fall or from other uni and save your status. once you save your status, you can think of something else. if you can get your I 20 withing grace period, you will be fine. if you have to go to nepal, thats ok too, you can apply to masters/phd program and come here again. life is not easy my friend, be strong.

If your OPT was in STEM field - science, technology, engineering, mathematics you are eligible for an extension of OPT. If this is not you, then, maintain your status or change your status. Join Kaplan or any other courses. Maintain your status .

Thanks for the reply guys... now I am more confused. Santosh, my OPT is in STEM field and I am eligible for extension of OPT (For which I need a job, which I don' t have). I filed H1b and it got approved. So, I don't know where I fall in. I don't think the company that filed my H1b wants me at all.

thanks techGuy, That means I am basically fked unless some miracle happens and the company that filed my H1b tells me to come back to work on October 1st, in which case, I could go to Nepal and probably, based on my H1b approval, I could come back. It sounds kind of hopeful but very unlikely. :(

Sajhacop:
Try to find another job and transfer your aproved H1b to the new company. If nothing works, then join an Indian consulting conpany, they will transfer your H1 any time.
Also, once your H1 is approved, your OPT is automatically extended. Talk with the international advisor and asked them to update your status in SEVIS and issue a new I20. You have plently of time, try to find a job now.
ALL THE BEST

"Also, once your H1 is approved, your OPT is automatically extended". Sheetalb, thanks for the hope. If that is true, that would probably give some hope to solve my problems. I don't know any Indian consultancies though, I think I should talk to Vastika.

it is true that your OPT gets extended once you get your H1B approval. however, in your case, your company who filed H1B for you has already let you go, so this might be a concern for you. Otherwise, you can definitely find another employer and transfer your H1b.
