You will also need the Vista SDK to be installed first.

But I think you will be better of using Visual Studio Orcas. Note that it is a monster download and you need at least 2 GB (3 GB is better) and a hefty dual core or dual processor machine to run it properly as it comes as a virtual image only. It is a currently in beta/CTP release cycle.

cheers

Nope,
There is no smaller download for Orcas.

If you really want to d/l smaller, your option is to use the WPF extensions for Visual Studio 2005. It still requires that you download the Vista SDK which is almost 1.1 GB (don't try to install it from the web - d/l the full ISO).

Your other option will be to use either Cider (google for Microsoft Cider) if you can find it, or to use Aurora XAML designer (google for it as well).

Personally I am using Orcas, due to the presence of Linq.

So bratboy,

How did you find this new Orcas technology?
Do you feel that Microsoft is always in a hurry; coz they have just released .Net 2.0. and now this .Net 3.0.?

Orcas is cool. Linq alone is more than worth using it. If you want to see a great example of WPF application look no further than the NYTimes reader application.

When you start using Linq you start thinking how you have managed without it so far.

I am fairly productive with Orcas, it has it quirks. But I have come to the realization that I am as productive in VS.NET 2005 with CodeRush and Resharper installed.

And I don't think Microsoft is in a hurry - there are a fair bit of innovations moving from Net 2.0 to 3.0/3.5.

And compared to Winforms - WPF is fast.

Cheers
Brat
