ABHEEK BARMAN of TIMES OF INDIA suggests "the only policy that makes sense for India is this: Export governance and institutions to Nepal. Run it as a protectorate" READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE. "Since February 2, when Nepal's King Gyanendra sacked his government, suppressed civil and political freedoms, and choked media, India's mandarins have been flapping like agitated hens. They ask whether India should support the king; if not, whether Maoists will seize power; whether China or Pakistan will use instabi-lity in Nepal to muscle in, and so on. Last week, India agreed to lift an arms embargo to Kathmandu. Gleeful at the prospect of more guns, the king threw the leaders of all parties in jail. Gyanendra seems to believe that he can beat back Maoists by military force. Few share his conviction. In Kashmir, 500,000 Indian soldiers and paramilitary have grappled with militants for 16 years. Even today, there are an estimated 2,000 insurgents at work there. The king has about 150,000 troops trying to control about 2,000 active Maoist fighters and probably 10 times that many sleepers who carry out stealth attacks. Gyanendra, who came to power after a bloody palace coup that wiped out bro-ther Birendra and nine members of his family four years ago, lacks any democratic instincts whatso-ever. Soon after taking over, he sacked an elected government and installed a government of cronies and yes-men. The government he sacked in February was his own hand puppet. Here's his economics, or what passes for that: Export more Nepalese workers to boost remittances, export hydro-electricity to India and boost tourism. Since February, tourist arrivals are rec-koned to have fallen about 50%; foreign aid, which funds approximately 70% of development spending has crashed as donors shrink from his regime; garment exports are down about 40% and Kath- mandu's official projections say that the economy might grow a measly 3% this year, compared to 7% for neighbouring Bhutan. Nepal is in the clutches of a bumbling and dangerous despot. It is futile to expect Gyanendra to restore democracy, the rule of law and institutions. Though Maoist boss Prachanda says he's with the political parties to overthrow the king, this could be a feint. Why should Maoist militias become the vanguard of democracy? One costly - and uncertain - option is to cut off the king, wait for Nepal to implode and institutions to emerge from the rubble. Actually, the only policy that makes sense for India is this: Export governance and institutions to Nepal. Run it as a protectorate. It is pointless to agonise over Kathmandu's sovereign rights. When states fail, as Nepal has done, sovereignty is a dangerous idea that empowers despots and their cronies. Today, Gyanendra's sovereignty has trapped the people of Nepal, 42% of whom are officially poor, in a cycle of violence and misery. Freedom has to be earned: Gyanendra, Nepal's venal parties and the Maoists just got the pink slip. " Clickhere for Source

Some Indian expansionist fanatics are day dreaming these days. All because our King, politicians and Maoists are fighting to each other for power triggering risk on our sovereignty. However, there is not much to worry about our country being gulped by India in the immidiate circumstances. The Times of India story may well be initiated by the Nepali Palace to create fear amongst the Nepalese that India would devour the nation if Monarchy is weakened. Politics everywhere, you can't ignore this possibility. Now should we all protest against this stupid chap called Abheek Barman himself and to Times of India as well. Here are the addresses. I will write him in person and it would be nice if he gets flurry of hate mails (preferrably short) from hundreds of Nepalese. Mr. Abheek Barman Assistant Editor The Economic Times Times House, 7 Bahadurshah Zafar Marg New delhi ? 110 002 India Tel: (011) 3492092, 3302216, 3312277 Fax: (011) 332346, 3715832 Email: abheekbarman@yahoo.com or
abheek.barman@timesgroup.com and for Times of India letter to the editor:

What a nut case! By his own measure, if India is struggling to integrate Kashmir after 50 years, I am not sure why any Indian leader in his right mind will want to put another hot potato in his mouth by trying to gobble Nepal as this guy suggests. But the article does raise a moot point: if we cannot run our country ourselves isn't it only natural that predators will prey on us given our pathetic state of affairs?

Newuser, I am sure you ass has been for sure wiped by Paras or his father.. Dude, why would palace create a propoganda as such amongst Nepali.. I think you gotto read the article twice.. I know its all hoax, but I dont see King's move to create havoc among Nepali. Read this statement "Gyanendra, who came to power after a bloody palace coup that wiped out bro-ther Birendra and nine members of his family four years ago, lacks any democratic instincts whatso-ever. Soon after taking over, he sacked an elected government and installed a government of cronies and yes-men. The government he sacked in February was his own hand puppet. If it was King than he has to be as stpid and as bheda as you are. Dude, You have no good reason to justify your own vision and logic.. I am damn sure you will create another Darwariya in Sajha, that would be ME.. For saying this like you I am not not here to support King and Palace, but I dont make nonsense judgement against anybody. If you hate king or palace hate him for reason. I dont know where u wrote, Paras is ridding Harley Davidson -- dude his father is Big Business Man, he makes triple than you could ever imagine. I am saying this again, you would be riding Lamborghini, Mc Laren if your dad have owned STC or Soaltee.. I am not being supportive to King, I am only making you realized how nonsense your statements are.. Come up with some good fact, come up with unbiased vision.. Aren't you big time supporter of democracy? U r huh? We all love democracy but we hate hypocrates in the name of democracy like sujata koirala .. And I see no difference between you and Sujata Koirala. BTW thanx for email address..

Pisces bro, it's a shame that you want to debate with me while I am always trying to avoid clash with a dull mind. There is a heck of a difference between an occasional reader and an analyst of affairs. First, try to gather as many informations as you can on the developments of Nepal. Read as many news reports as you can from national and international media plus opinions, comments, editorials, books on bilateral ties and historical events and stuffs and then come up to have a political debate with me. For the time being, do not bad mouth at me if you think you are a sensible person. You are free to have your say but kindly don't drag me in your comments.Fed up with stalkers mate.

Pisces, You should know it by now that it's useless to try to reason with people who are biased, bigoted, dogmatic, narrow minded, prejudiced, resentful and spiteful. Inspite of their gloating on how well read they are, they are the most narrow minded people ever, who never cease to show off how good they are and how they are an analyst of affairs. It's such an irony since they have displayed time after time that they have a closed mind. An analysis of a closed mind is like looking for a needle in a haystack. You can simply ignore their pretentious, arrogant, self aggrandizing banterings.

Please spare me from your typical mandale attributions. झर्को नै लाग्यो । न्यूयुजर तैंले साझामा केहि पनि पोष्ट नगर भन्न खोज्या हो ? For goodness sake, please don't direct your comments on me. You have won allright. Stop bitching with me now.

One thing I can't stand is people who are condescending. You posted something and Pisces posted his/her opinion since anyone is allowed to post thier opinions just like you are. There was no need to be condescending like you know everything "it's a shame that you want to debate with me while I am always trying to avoid clash with a dull mind. Saroj cool down.. Thanx for pointing my flaws Newuser.. As you said, I am occassional user, you are right but back then I used to be as active as you are now when you were somewhere busy with your NETA giri, and when I had plenty of time to put whatever in Sajha. So do not claim yourself "Sajha ko Raja". Well, when it comes about reading and analysing, you dont know me and nothing about me so do not point how well read I am.. Bhayena ni bro, timro kura ramro bhanne sabai Bidwan, timro kura namanne sabai murkha.. Like Nepe used to be - Neta haru lai thutkarne haru, Nepe ko lagi Mandale hun. NW, though I hardly post my comments, recently here in Sajha I have been closely observing your posts and threads.. I have no problem with your democratic idealogy and I am not saying its wrong.. But your posting has so much of hatred, biaseness and those are irrational as well. If you claim yourself to be big time analyser come up with some good reason to justify your claim.. Thats what all I had to say.. I am not against you being democracy lover.. Bro le Ram Chandra ko article padayou, khai tyasko bislesan lekhana.. By the way tyasko Bislesan lekda keep in mind who wrote it not just what he wrote.. Hai ta bro.. Looking forward.

Again Newuser bro, you said "Staklers Mate" (I missed the words) and I am sure you are pointing that to me..Hasayeko ho timile..La ma Hasi dinchu hai.. Dude, I am saying you were not even around when I used to be the active reader and the writer. I dont believe I am infrequent visitor here. By the way I am not here to prove I am big time intelligent neither here to prove you are dumb which could be vice-a-versa.. I am not writing about your attitude which I hardly care, but about your posters.. La timi nai Raaj gara Sajha ma, Gyane le Nepal ma Raaj garya justai.. Jai hoos timro.

वाह Pisces ji, well tried to defend yourself। वधाइ छ। आफूलाई पूरा सफाइ देर दोष जति अर्को माथि थोपरिदिने तपाईको चतु-याईंलाई सलाम छ। उहि महाराज ज्ञानेन्द्रको शैलिमा हैन त? As my username suggest, I am relatively new to this site. It was coincidental that The royal coup happened after I started browsing sajha. I never knew about this site before one of my friends suggested about the popularity of this amongst the Nepalese in here. It was like 3,4 weeks after I registered, that the King assumed direct rule and as a resolute opponent of dictatorship, I could hardly refrain myself from criticising his tyrannical moves. My opposition, if you have followed my comments from the beginning, were basically against communication blackouts, Press Censorship, freedom of movement, reinstatement of Panchayat type positions and institutions, detention of anti-monarchial politicians and idealogues (Narahari, Ramchandra, Gagan etc) and human rights activists while leaving corrupt lots like Khum Bahadur, Gachhadar, etc. for spree. Gyanendra could not cast his spell on me like on you from the very beginning, I sensed hallucinations in his fake commitments on democracy and therefore started criticising him. His actions thereafter have proven my predictions right. He is gradually stamping his autocracy in the country and various ammendments in Nepal acts and laws to toughen the current restrictions are in the drawing board. You like it or not, Gyanendra wants to rule Nepal in darkness not for 3 years but for decades, unless the circumstances and the people force him to stop. Since the coup, I am an active participant in sajha. But unlike you, I am not writing political opinions only. You have denied that you are a royalist, but there is a peculiar similarity between you and other critics of mine. That they all don't bother to comment on any threads except those in which monarchy is criticised. Could this be a mere coincidence? Good that you were an active participant before.Unfortunately, I haven't seen you posting anything like a descriptive article in sajha. No problem though, I knew from you now that you are a great analyst who prefer not to post his analyses and is happy to spill his venom against newuser and Nepe. Nepe? Why did you drag a third (irrelevant) person in this discussion man. This shows your frustrations. And it was this learned but calm and silent man called Pisces who said: 'Newuser, I am sure you ass has been for sure wiped by Paras or his father' In response to newuser's : 'The Times of India story may well be initiated by the Nepali Palace to create fear amongst the Nepalese that India would devour the nation if Monarchy is weakened. Politics everywhere, you can't ignore this possibility. ' I was simply putting a possibility, a 'may' thing. And you went like wiping the ass and stuffs. And again 'Netagiri' this time. This proves your fundamentals. How could you be sure abt. what happened to me huh? I am neither a Neta or a wannabe Neta or connected to Neta, you'd be surprised if you met me though. Just reading publications and writing in sajha instead of watching movies or sleeping in my free times. Now, let me explain you about the possibilities of the palace involved in Times of India story. First, you must know we are talking about politics, a dirty game. There are every possibilities in politics. It won't be surprising if it's proven one day that the present king was behind the Narayanhiti Massacre, that he is the one to help maoists gain momentum, or India behind everything. Politics is a drama and it unfolds in a matter of time. You must know the fact that our Royals have close relationship and alliance with various powers in India, the Raja/maharaja generations, with the FM Natwar Singh, and Hindu leaders. Both armies have 'good relationship'. Hence there are both direct and indirect/clandestine contacts between the palace and the Indian estabilishments/ hierarchy. Apart from the Indian civil society and Bureaucracy, there are many Indian elites who serve the interest of the Palace. They are very likely to provoke Nepalese population spreading rumours/ threats/hoax of Indian intervention if Monarchy is ousted in Nepal through media, thus safegurding the interest of the Palace. Coming to Times of India story. First, the story about Baburam meeting Indian communist leaders came from Gulfnews. After few days, it was published in an assertive manner in Times of India. The news report questioned about the dubiousness of Indian authority in dealing with the Maoists. Which was clearly in the interest of the Nepal's Palace prompting Sheetal Niwas to issue a statement against India in the aftermath. All other Indian media obliged to the intentions of Indian leaders to put these meetings clandestine. TOI didn't surprisingly. Again, it is TOI which published the Abheek Barman article. The article is quite provoking. It criticizes the King but indirectly serves the interest of him, by implying that India can be protectorate of Nepal after overthrowing the King. The message of the article is: If there is no King, India can run Nepal as a protectorate.Safeguarding the palace interest once again, creating fear amongst the Nepalese that without ROyals, Nepal loses it's sovereignty. Mind you, I am speaking abt. possibility. King's business dealings are very good with both Indian and Gulf businessmen. Barman works for the Economic bureau of TOI, Economic Times, to be precise and Gyanendra's business empire provides a good amount of advertisement to the Times Syndication Service TSS. The story of Baburam that was exposed by TOI clearly favours the King and so does the Barman article (in the Nepali perspective). Hence , you cannot dismiss the possibility that these recent publications In TOI might have came as a result of the royalist propoganda. Main stream publication in India are controlled by political hardliners, more rightists , and they have good relationship with the palace. Although the majority of the journalists and intellectuals in India are against the Kings move, the political elites affiliated to the Nepali monarchy also have a fair share in Indian media. And one more thing to tell you, it's not Only India trying to exploit the weakness of small neighbours, there are lots of examples China-Taiwan, Syria-Lebanon, Angola-Nigeria-Zimbabwe-Sudan-Congo (in West Africa), Turkey-Cyprus, Indonesia- East Timor etc. And most of the time those regimes that support the bigger neighbour's authority are in power. Don't ever think that our Monarchy is opposing/can oppose Indian hegemony.Against India's interest, it will fall apart in a matter of days. So I have explained everything to you now Piscesji. Kindly do not drag me for debate in the future by using derogatory remarks and personal allegations pls. I would appreciate if you knew what I meant.
