I am not really sure. what set up it would be good for nepal ,republican or ceremonial monarcy. If i had choice ,i would go for ceremonial monarchy than republician. As we have seen in past our nepalese people have not understood the idea of democracy then again to give them a Big republican set up would be too much of a chance and change.Ii fear people won't be able to handle .
I think to maintain the slow transistion and considering the past history of Nepal .It would be beneficial for nepal and nepalese to leave the state as ceremonial monarchy as in Netherland or belgium.
Also we cannot deny the fact that it was this shah dynasty that united nepal together.Good or bad way we are Nepal as whole because of shahs anchestors.King is not as cruel or dictator as seen in history of the world.may be he didn't care too much but leaving him throne that his anchestor gave him won't be too bad.
We need head of state and the techinicality of these kind of issue can create more confusion and chaos.
I think it is essential to educate people in more demoractic get up than to fight just removing king.King has become agenda where as my point of view peace and progress of nation should be agenda.Removing king is not as is as it seems.

Complete Monarchy or King with More powers than in 1990 constitution.

Reason: A bunch of corrupt politicians and terrorists are not what a democracy should be. If that is what you want, go southwards, a place called India is welcoming you with both hands.

In 21st century ,it is good that people dictate who should rule.Monarchy are things of past.
If there is any monarchy remaining in the earth then they should just be symbolic.More powerful king??I don't think so after all he did had chance but these monarchs can never see things from the eyes of normal people.

Politician though most of them are corrupt people in Nepal comes from public. They are more in touch of issues of People. The only thing we need in Nepal is good Leader.
If King does want the whole power then he will get nothing.

The check and balance of the democratic process is done by supreme court. So, Supeme court should be the most powerful.Unlike what is happening right now .

Democracy is the right way to go whether you keep king or not.

21st Century in English calender. How about I say I am in 2063 B.S.? I haven't forgotten my roots. 21st century should be democracy...who said that...i bet it must be US, UK, India and EU!

Lol. Learn your lessons from your country. Not others. Wake up, stand up, smell the beans.

Ok fine i am talking about 2063 Bc. After seeing 240 years of undemocratic practices and Rich and powerful being always in power .no development.it is high time for nepalese people to decide their fate.
This kind of reigms has bought us problems like maoist .which i think are worst enemies of the development and progress.Even more than so called elite ruler class.
But Ruler class only wants to rule.they want to rule people like cattles.
Same as been in past my we need to change that.
I do not believe in communism but if elite royal class want to be in power then they should go public .They cannot rule nepal just because their forefathers were ruling. Now the time has changed and people should rule.

Your comment that 240 years of rule brought no development is wrong. If it is taken to be correct...then, please tell me what did democracy bring to other 5 countries of SAARC? And if you think Nepal can change under SPAM's rule then you are blinded. Nepal needs one person to solve it: The King. And some brilliant people to work under him!

Been there, done that kind of discussion. All these things have been answered by blogdai and maila_baje in their blogs again and again and again. We aren't against Democracy. We are against SPAM.

I have mixed feelings about "EITHER" or "OR" on this issue....people rule...its easier said than done...have u seen any people's voice right now?? Its what politicians want.....and what other parties support or not......That was the main problem for the failure of the Democracy of the 90s..before the royal takeover.....Politicians made decisions as they felt...without any thoughts for the consequences ....and people's feelings were no where to be seen......I can't figure out what "People's Rule" really entail in Nepal's prespective.......At the end of teh day, I don't think the PEOPLE want any corruption...they want development, advancement and a better living standard...I don't think the Politicians should be a "Rocket Science" to figure that out.....Despite knowing that, have we seen any substantial commitment to development in the country? The answer is "NO"......I dunno what can change that, or if it ever will......Its not only Nepal....look around other countries in Asia, Africa, even South America.....Rich countries are getting richer....poor nations are falling backwards.....Becoz..no matter what, the leaders and Politicians have no commitment to the country and its people......They think they deserve to be in the power, but once they are in power, they forget why they are in Power in the first place....Enuff said!

My friends and I have done enough on this word:

DEMOCRACY

And it's a word of fools. No Democracy exists in this world. All Americans are under the scanner of their government. All phones are being tapped and video surveilence has failed. In India they divide the country based on Reservations. This much for democracy.

The meaning of democracy varies everywhere. And hence people should stop talking about it. What should be: is the system which suits the country and culture. Enough of SPAMming.

Perfect democracy is hard to achieve but atleast it is worthwhile to work towards it.Instead sitting back.it takes time to mature .We have seen the king system as well as the SPAM 90's democarcy.I am not and was never supporter of bad judgement. But in the hope that there would be some good leaders coming in future it is best for people to decide.King and brilliant people didn't work out.King cannot see from the eyes of commoner unless we decide to change the king and place somebody else.

About suvelliance programs ,well it is done for the safty of its citizens however i don't agree with that but you see that people have right to speak against it and if republican govt is out of power this will stop and people can choose to throw republicans.where as how are we going to throw king ??

The name of development in 240 years is a joke? when other countries are on top of the mountain in last 240 years we are still in the base camp.

234 years ago. Nepal takes birth under a King.

Circa 1988 (english calendar for you). King's complete control of Nepal. Nepal one of the most peaceful nations in the world. Hopes of declaring it as Non-aligned Switzerland of the East. Policies being formulated to turn Nepal into another Singapore story.

Circat 1989. Troubles with India.

Circa 1990. India imposes democracy on Nepal.

Circa 1990-1996. Problems and problems and problems.

Circa 1996. Maoist problems begin.

Circa 2002. Democracy is hated.

Circa 2005. One good step by a man, one giant step for Nepal.

Circa April, 2006. A Nation turned fool by 200000 people.

Circa May, 2006. Back to the square one.

Don't give me rhetorics. I am better at it than you are. Go back to books and learn the basics.

I am really not sure either. It seems like so difficult to trust anyone. King got a chance and mismanaged big time. People had a lot of aspiration for King to bring peace in country. But he failed to build any momentum.

Political Parties ruled for the last 12 years. All they did was made a country 100 times worst than Panche Era. We all know they fight among themselves. I hope they can manage things well without selling us to India. But I have to doubt of their past behavior.

Mao---I hope they can come clean, denouce violance and join mainstream politics for the sake of nation. But doubt how long it will last. There is already talk and threats for their demand.

I hope we will find a good leader who can bridge the gap and bring prosperity.

Republic. Pure and simple.

Why keep the parasites?

It's like paying a bully to hang around. You're always scared that he might beat you up. And there are some among you who actually believe that the bully somehow benefits your neighborhood by keeping other bullies out. Plus they are used to having a bully, so they cannot imagine a neighborhood with him. Though it is tough living with the bully, they think the unknown factor of not having around is scarier to them. So, they favor status quo.

But the fact is, if you rise against the bully and drive him out, how you manage your neighborhood falls in your hand. You become responsible for your own future. Sure, there will be some chaos in the beginning, but eventually you will manage. Future is in your hand.

memyself... tells "Nepal takes birth under king..."....what is this...? Human being takes birth in the form of apes...it lived in jungles many many years ago...but there is drastic change now...they have changed from animals to most brainy humans...change is natural and we should always move forward...

So what nepal was born under king...Nepal does not need any more king now...Nepal cannot tolerate smuggler king or killer crown...its too much...Nepal cannot take the burder of rajsanstha at all...it has to move forward with full democratic environment...

I go for republic...OK...if due to circumstances and conditions...I can even go for ceremonial kingship...but not more than that...no active rule of king...its over now...
