It might seem fancy for some but for most of us in sajha, seeing hindi words in the posts is just distressful. I don't know what some of these guys feel, but it's more stupid as it's deteriorating our language and culture. I know it's hard to be unaffected with the big ass courtry next to us but least we can limit ourself in the public forum as SAJHA so as not to emphasize it further and destroy our heritage altogether. So please, let's start and be proud of being a Nepali.

The thread is incorrect. One should have right to speak whatever he wants to. That is what freedom is all about. So, if some don't want to speak hindi and thus post their point of view, it is as legit as someone practising their right to speak whatever they want to. But freedom doesn't imply namecalling as the mofo did. Now some sajhaites are ready to call names to fellow sajhaites for your right to speak Hindi.

THERE IS A BIG DIFF BETWEEN NOT WANTING TO SPEAK HINDI AND TRYING TO IMPOSE YOUR NOT WATNTING TO SPEAK HINDI ON OTHER PEOPLE. I AM TOTALLY FOR SPEAKING WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT TO SPEAK, but DO NOT TRY AND IMPOSE IT ON ME....thats all.

I accept one should have right to speak any language. Should i use hindi to talk to fellow nepalese in this board which is meant to be for nepalese. Why dont u know hindi is becoming a threat. Have you listened so called ministers of nepal talking in hindi in indian news channel.which is ludicrous.

I know it is down to personal choice, i am never against it. use it when u need it. As far as i not knowing language differences is concerned, let me tell you i am proficient in nepali, english, spanish, italian and spanish. All i said was talk in either nepali or english(as web is mostly based on english) while talking to fellow nepalse. Why should we resort to hindi.

I am in liverpool in england. many of the people havent even heard of country called nepal. They say " oh you are from nepal, it is india isnt it". It may not hurt you it definitely hurts me. We are battling with our identity crisis. Hindi is defintely a threat. I just dont talk with my fellow nepalese in hindi because it will be as if accepting the fact we are from india.

Talk in hindi when you are talking to indian. Talk in spanish when you are talking to spanish or latin american. There is no problem . Do anybody even know Wales they have own national language but almost lost it because of the influence of england.Same thing with scotland. We can relive our history through books, novels poems of great nepali writers. If nepali dont survive so does our history.This problem may not seem pronounced at the moment but anybody knows about one third of nepalese population live outside nepal. There is every possibility that they may start to speak hindi more often because indians are everywhere.
This website is for nepali community living outside nepal. If we dont do this small things right then who will.

Fot those who doesn't want others to speak hindi in sajha. could you also refrain yourself from speaking english. why don't you guys type and talk in nepali all the time. now that you might say, you live in a country where english is the language and that you have to speak it. then my friends, more nepalese live and work in India than anywhere else in the world. Nepali language is constitutionalized in the Indian parliament as one of the 8 official languages. i don't see anything wrong anyone speaking or using hindi in sajha.

Another thing. I don't think King Prithvi forced the valley residents to speak nepali. he actually adopted all newari cultures and traditions and wellcomed all newari customs to his own western (nepal) way to life. such as keeping the tradtion of worshipping the virgin, erecting the phallic symbol on Indrajatra. As a matter of fact, Shah's were originally (before the time of Prithvi), were worshippers of Shakti or female deities such as GorakhKali and Manakamana Devi. Only after coming into KTM, seeing the Mallas equally devoted to male energies, they accepted Pasupatinath as the state god, instead of GorakhKali. I don't know if you all know that tradition of King being revered as incarnation of Lord Vishnu only started after the visit of Mahendra to Budanilkantha. That is less than 50 year old tradition.

Kiwigal, I do know the gist of this thread, you didn't get it did you? All I wanted to say was it is ones right to speak whichever langauge he wants, no "dui maat" in this. But speaking Hindi inside Nepal should have been reciprocated by speaking Nepali by Indian. this never will happen. Why, any Indian who meets a Nepali, no matter where, easily assumes he will know Hindi and start speaking in Indian. Well, for the fellow Nepalese working in India, it is a necessity to speak Nepali. But, for us inside Nepal, why the hell we can't converse with the tarkariwalla in Nepali if a watchman in India has to resort to speaking in Hindi to his landlord?

Chow Yang you couldn't have said it better. Bidhan is correct. Why can't we start potraying our identity better. Can we learn a bit from fellow Nepalese in Darjeeling? It is all about promoting and giving preference to our language while enjoying our privilege to use others.
