In a recent radio show organized by BBC Nepali Sewa, transmitted today (May 17, 2009), Dr. Babu Ram Bhattrai sait he "has a dream of making Nepal atleast like USA or Europe in next 15/ 20 years.". Shouldn't we work to fulfil his dream? But do we trust his words anymore? BTW, there is speculation that LTTE's Chairman, Prabhakaran has committed suicide. They are trying to confirm his body doing DNA testing.

Sidster- Agree with you that great Dr. is collecting more money(be as it with the threat) but can you tell us what has he done with that money beside giving with his PLA and party???....pls. don’t tell us about his plans..we all know Maoist never implement any plans unless that benefits them and their party.... I am thinking if educated people like you can easily fall in propaganda of Maoist, how can we imagine millions of other SOJA SHIDA Nepali....????

Nirvana, Its not about falling into their propoganda. Its about being able to observe the facts. To me there is no difference between Girija, Baburam, Kamal Thapa, KG, or Upendra Mahato. They all have been involved with murdering people one way or the other. But if we were to weigh all those characters with the same benchmark, Baburam outweighs all of the others, possesing the common factor of (murders) with those leaders at least Baburam has proved himself to be the best among the worst. Thats all I am saying. If we are forced to pick one leader among the list of murderers then Baburam would be my pick. I dont now where they will spend the money but i am just glad that the money is with the government right now. Also, the money that is going to the cantonment was going to be gone regardless of what Baburam collected. If it was not collected through the tax it would have been begged somewhere. People are angry at Baburam because he has threatned to take actions on those who do not want to pay the legal tax. My say is pay the freakin tax. Imagine US running without people paying taxes. Sid

He had one more dream last night..... Parties paid money to lawmakers for their support: Bhattarai Finance minister of the caretaker government and Maoist senior leader Babu Ram Bhattarai has accused other political parties of engaging in a nasty horse-trading to accumulate a majority for a new coalition. Speaking at a function in Gorkha Monday, Bhattarai claimed he had evidence that parties paid hefty amount of money to lawmakers to gain their support to form the government. "Although I have evidence that huge sums of money changed hands in hotel rooms in exchange of support to the new alliance, I cannot reveal the evidences now as, officially, I am still a minister," Bhattarai said. Stressing on the need of a government with national consensus, Dr Bhattarai said a government formed without such consensus would not last for more than three months. Madhav Kumar Nepal is becoming the Prime Minister only to make history, his tenure will not last long, he said. nepalnews.com May 18 09

If I remember it correct, Baburam or Prachanda also had a dream about a year ago that there was a covert operation going on to assassinate top Maoist leaders...they were also planning to provide evidence about the dream to international media...

HEY GUYS! NAMING YOURSELF DESHBHAKTA OR DESHDROHI DOESN'T MATTER MUCH. WHAT YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO NEPAL IS A MATTER OF CONCERN? JUST CRITICIZING IN WORDS IS THE SIGN OF DURPOK. GIVING HEALTHY SUGGESTIONS AT TIMES LIKE NOW IS MORE WISELY ACTION.

but naming yourself pagaal makes sense what deshbhakta nepali is telling is true what these terrorists were telling a year ago and now you see what they have ended up with So a healthy suggestion would be to invite lalu yadav for the Post of PM

Sidster, you are forgetting one very important aspect of the way they are collecting $$$. Remember Bernie Madoff ? he he he That guy cooked the books and had the whole financial instituon under his thumb. Now just like Prachandey and his two faced reality, R U SURE THESE NUMBERS WERE NOT COOKED BY THEM JUST LIKE THEY MISLED THE ENTIRE NEPALI BHEDA JANATA ? and one more thing the businesses in Nepal are still paying that weekly bhatta to YCL on top of paying taxes to the govt. which is making their day to existance very very hard to the extent of extinction. If this continues pretty soon there will be no businesses left for them to collect tax.

I think you guys are confused over my explanation to the issue. I am advocating for an individual for his work standards(Work Ethics, and Delivery) not for the party. I am not sure if the numbers have been cooked or not. The numbers could have been cooked, you could be right on that. I do not have enough ammunition to argue over whether the book was cooked or not. But i would incline little towards the validity of the artical for the fact that the news was published by Kantipur and Kantipur publication is well known for being Anti - Maoist....arent they? Also, in my neighbourhood in KTM, lots of people went in and paid their property taxes before the deadline not to be fined heavly if not paid by then. Again, property taxes were supposed to be paid in Nepal, it wasnt Baburam's idea to create a new law. He was only enforcing the existing law. People hate this becasue they have enjoyed not paying taxes for years. YCL made my father sell his property for 40 Lakhs lower than the market price few years ago. I do not support YCL activities or Maoists idealogy. I wish there were other democratic ( do not confuse it with Bhrasta UML or Congress we have presently) minded leaders with Baburam's capability in Nepal but there arent. So at the time i would rather pick competent Baburam whose ideas are shady than some incompetent bhatmara leader of Nepal. I do not believe in dictatorship and i have ultra liberal views. When you look at a bigger picture of Nepal. All we have is currupt, inept, loosers runnning the country. Baburam stands out to be the best among those loosers at least he takes his job seriously and delivers what he is suppose to do. I wish the so called democratic leaders would learn the work ethic from him and atleast do the job that they are suppose to do when they hold the post. Those SOBs hold the post for granted, they have no produtivity, no vision, no work ethics, and no morals. If we have enough Baburams, who care less about making money for himself and take the post with the strong sense of work ethic, determination, productivity, and vision then it wouldnt matter what party or idealogy they came from. Peace !!!

Sadly Sidsters explanation reeks of the sh*t that Maoist like to serve up to the gullible. Whether it’s hardliners or not, whether it’s Pukada or Baburam, whether they look to the north or the south, the bottom line is that Maoists are terrorists. Apologists and appeasers may delight in Maoist double-speak and try to have the rest of us taken for a ride, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are no good or bad terrorists. Terrorists are bad, in fact, evil. Before you respond with this tiresome verbiage about the rest of us opposing Baburam because he collected taxes, that’s exactly how one would expect Baburam to defend himself and you are doing just that for him. Let us put in another way, the fact that he collected taxes does not make him any less of a terrorist. What’s stopping you from admitting that Baburam is a terrorist? Please look to Sri Lanka to see what happens to terrorists.

Peter, My point exactly. None of the political characters in Nepal are less of a Terrorist than the next one. They are all terrorist one way or the other. One takes the knife directly to your throat and the other creates an environment for one to have no access to food, shelter, and safety. Just because one chooses to murder indirectly doesnt make them less of a terrorist. I wish there was a third option but there isint Peace !!!

Raju, You are coming to the line of my point at well. The "nothing" here should be just doing the job, described in the job description. Baburam did exactly that" nothing" and the others couldnt even do that "nothing" The expectancy from leader in Nepal is so low that, people dont even want the leader to get charismatic things done. They want the mere job done for the salary people are paying for the post. Dr Ram Saran is one of the example of incompetence who probably didnt kill anyone by the throat but didn't do anything to prosper the ordinary Nepali which had direct consequence to the rise of Maoism. Peace !!!

Sidster - this expanisve definition of terrorism is no doubt an effort that Goebbles would be proud of. You still have not come out with it straight: that Baburam is a terrorist. Let's start with that premise first. Another thing, this sophistry of yours still does not get you out of the conundrum - are you trying to say that becasue others did poorly, that somehow justifies what the Maoists did? We commend you for so adeptly defending the Maoists cause and your every attempt to muddy the waters in their favour. That, however, does not change the fact that you know that the key difference between terrorists and and others is that the former believes in and uses violence to impose on others their set of beliefs. The Moaist and their ideologue Bhattarai need no lessons from anyone on this. You know that that's what they have been doing and with your sophistry to propel their cause, you have become yet another useful idiot for these terrorists.

Baburam is a terrorist; no argument on that. But he is still the most qualified person to handle finance ministry in Nepal with what he has done in 8 months. We are just unfortunate that the best we have is a terrorist. Just because he is a terrorist, i would not call other finance ministers in Nepal more qualified to hold the job. Peace !!!

ok I comend Baburam for doing his job(which he should be doing anyways regardless of what happened in the past)x !! Lets give him a medal then huh !! At the same time he is also responsible for all the Nepali lives lost in his ascension to Power. So shouldn't we be holding him resposible for that as well ? SO JUST BECAUSE HE IS DOING A GOOD JOB DOES NOT MAKE HIM ANY LESS OF A TERRORIST. YCL still comes and threatens my parents on a daily basis, and you assholes come here to talk about Dr Terrorist in chief doing a good job ? WTF !!!
