what is the most lucrative electrical engineering position which has more prospect in east side around DC, VA, MD area?

I did not know they still have jobs in Electrical Engineering.

I guess newlynew is pretty new in the technical field. I would say electrical engineering is the engineering of engineerings. Electrical engineers have its own different sections like communication, signal, digital systems, control enginering, power engineering, semiconductor, microwave,optics.... It is also applied in other engineering also such as mechanical, biomedical, agriculture, aerospace ....  May be you are thinking there is only oppertunity for computer related jobs. Man, electrical engineers still hold too many jobs in the job market. in 2008 out of 1.6 million engineering jobs Electrical enginnering was at 4th place with 157,800 jobs(civil,mechnical and industrial engineers were ahead of EE).

Well, I have seen many kids graduating in Electrical Engineering and ended up having to go back to school for a different degree as the job prospects were close to nothing. EE may be hot in developing countries or a manufacturing economies. I can tell you that it is not so in North America, especially when the whole manufacturing sector is doing so badly and is literally being moved to China and other parts of Asia. As a matter of fact, it is highly likely that you would end up with nothing in this part of the world if you graduate in one of the traditional engineering fields. And Mr. Bigbang, just for your information, I actually have a degree in EE.

I am thinking of going into Control, chip designing, power etc..I understand EE is a very wide field...but I just put it out there to see free responses not limited to any one EE field.

BigBang: Great to know that you guys are doing great in your respective careers. I have gave it up some time back. I am now in quantitative finance. I don't regret doing EE at all. In fact, the mathematics that I learned in EE has helped me a great deal to get into my current career path... Good luck to all..

newlynew: like you, I did my undergrad in EE too. and you are right, EE is not a very hot when you just have college degree here because lots of manufacturing jobs have moved overseas. but i think there are plenty of jobs here in US in EE if you have master or Phd. but PHD is something that lots of people are not interested in.

Looks like you are doing your master in quantitative finance. please tell me more about it and why you chose that field. i know it's a very demanding job especially in wall street but why did you choose it and now why are you planning to go back to EE.

right after my graduation with EE, i moved to IT field because i couldn't find job in EE and now i am working in a financial sector on wall street. because of exposure to various financial domain, i am planning to do quantitative finance or financial engineering in future because now i am equipped with all the things that i need to get that degree and move my career in that direction. i think it would be great if we share our knowledge on this topic.

DolphinBro: Just like you, I started working at a software house in a BA type role with some exposure to software development as well. We mainly focussed on finance applications. That's where I got most of my finance knowledge and networking. That motivated me to do CFA. I never did a degree in quantitative finance but I managed to finish finance focussed MBA while working. So that came in handy for job searches. Now I am focussing more on Risk Management where quantitative finance plays a great role... 

newlynew bro: Thanks for sharing your information. so what is your situation right now.i know market is pretty much beaten down especially the one on wall street but are you working in financial field using your MBA degree or are you still working on as a BA. the reason i wanted to ask you is because i was actually thinking of doing either MBA in finance or financial engineering but i leaned toward financial engineering because MBA seemed risker given the less amount of experience i have to join a good MBA school.
