Media increased the conflict, says PM Deuba

KOL Report

KATHMANDU, Dec 4 - Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has blamed the media for exaggerating the Maoists problem and inflating the ongoing conflict in the country.

In a program organized in the capital on Friday, PM Deuba questioned the journalist?s job whether it is to promote the Maoist or to discourage them.

He further alleged, ?The media has always blamed the government for not doing much to bring the Maoist to the negotiating table.?

PM Deuba has urged the media to persuade the Maoist leadership to come to the talk table instead of criticizing the government.

Stating that media enjoys the greatest freedom the Prime Minister repeatedly warned, ?If Maoist were to rule in the country all media houses are to be shut down.? (dds)
