First of all, why is there a third-place match in the FIFA World Cup? When two teams lose in the semifinals, they are already heartbroken and depressed for not reaching the finals, and then they have to stay back and play another game to get the bronze!
You don't have a third-place match in the Champions League, do you? I guess it helps if you are the leading goalscorer and have a match more to extend your lead, just like Mbappé did. Even if you win the third-place match, there is nothing to brag about or be happy about because, at the end of the day, winning the World Cup is the only goal for all these players.
Mbappé will probably go home with the Golden Boot once again as he scored twice against the English side and now has ten goals in his kitty. Messi will need a hat-trick to take back the Golden Boot, and I guess that won't be possible against Spain, but you never know, Messi is Messi!
England beat France 6-4 in what could be the most unusual match in FIFA World Cup history. Even when England was up 4-0, some of us still expected Mbappé to come around swinging and scoring goals to equalize. They nearly did, but in the end, it was a goal fest with ten goals in a single match, reminding some of our grandfathers of the past World Cup matches back in the 60s.
If both England and France had played such attacking football, then maybe both of the would be in the finals right now. We cannot blame the coaches only when the team fails to win the game, while players take all the credit for their victories. I guess God speaks Spanish, and that's why we have Argentina and Spain in the finals instead.
The English are now third place winner, their best record so far in the past 60 years since they took the trophy home. They lost to Italy in 1990 and then to Belgium in 2018. And when was the last time somebody scored 6 goals against France? Well, the English can take some pride in that, maybe, and better luck next time.
France will come back strong in the next World Cup. Mbappé will be around. Maybe it will be France vs Spain in 2030 if they don't get in each other's path until the finals, then.Let us wish Messi and Yamal all the best. Well, let us wish Argentina and Spain all the best for tomorrow's finals.
Will King Messi win it for Argentina for the second time in a row, which hasn't happened since Brazil did that back in 1958 and 1962? Or will Spain win it and break all records for any national team, as they are undefeated in 37 matches so far!
As God speaks Spanish, let us all say "Que gane el mejor equipo".... may the best team win!
